How it all began

Hatch was founded in September 2015 by Jacqui Barhouch and Christy Smith. In 2023, following 7 years of running Hatch, we officially registered The Hatch Foundation NPC and Carri Hanekom joined our team.

There is so much need and inequality in South Africa, that we wanted to take action and help new mothers in underserved communities, and so Hatch was formed.

Our Why

New moms in the communities Hatch supports face huge challenges - it must be one of the toughest places to raise a child.

Most women give birth alone, with very little in the way of clothes or toiletries for their new babies, so receiving a bag of essentials really helps with those early days.

We believe that every child deserves an equal start in life, and we hope we can help in this small way, by providing new moms with something to ease their journey into motherhood.
